RENEW Neurological Conditions Movement Classes FREE
RENEW PRESS RELEASE
Truro-based health experts, The Core Health Consultancy, have been commissioned by NHS Kernow to offer a programme of free chair based exercise courses in Cornwall for people with long term neurological conditions.
These courses are called RENEW which stands for ‘really effective neurological exercise workouts’.
The RENEW courses are offered for people with neurological conditions such as Parkinsons, MS, stroke, head and spinal injuries. They are free to participants. Individuals can refer themselves or can be referred by a health professional, GP or carer.
The RENEW course promotes strength, mobility, balance and stability, and improvements to quality of life. The exercises are designed to develop daily functional movements which, in turn, increase individuals’ confidence in their own abilities.
Each class lasts 90 minutes, and is a gentle exercise class designed for people with neurological conditions or those recovering from neurological damage. Each session comprises of 60 minutes of gentle, seated exercise and will finish with a drink and a chance to chat with instructors about health conditions and lifestyle. People also receive an exercise booklet to enable them to continue the exercises at home.
The 12 week course will help people make lifestyle changes which will have a positive impact on their health as well as boosting their self-confidence and offering the opportunity to make new friends.
The courses will be run in community venues in the following areas, starting in September 2015: Falmouth, Newquay and Liskeard and in Redruth, Carnon Downs and St Austell in January 2016.
People who have attended say:
“The course has made me more mobile, flexible, has made me aware of the fact that I need to look after myself better and given me the motivation for it.”
“It is good to meet other people with the same or slightly different needs. I am basically stuck at home, so this course has improved my well-being physically and mentally.”
Participants will be required to complete a short questionnaire and health check.
